New York State AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento ‘Thanks’ Union Members ‘For Getting Out The Vote Across NYS’ - As Well As ‘Congratulating A Number Of Union-Backed Candidates Who Won In Tuesday’s Mid-Term Elections’
(ALBANY, NEW YORK) – New York State AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento is thanking Union Members across the State for getting out the vote, as well as congratulating a number of Union-back candidates who won in Tuesday’s Mid -Term Elections.
Said Cilento: “Working People were energized throughout this election season and tonight’s victories are proof that their voices were heard. Labor’s strength was on full display as our Members came together to educate, engage and mobilize voters, ensuring that Union-backed candidates emerged victorious. We’ve always known that a robust Labor-to-Labor program is what wins elections. The New York State AFL-CIO coordinated with our affiliated Unions and Regional Labor Bodies to activate thousands of volunteers from Long Island to Westchester, from Plattsburgh to Buffalo to cover shifts of more than seventy phone banks and (170) Labor walks. I’m incredibly proud of the dedication of our affiliated Unions, whose Members made more than one million door knocks, calls and texts in a full-scale campaign that also included one million mail pieces. But what truly sets us apart is the enthusiasm and determination of our (2.5 million) Members, Retirees and their families. It’s their unwavering commitment that makes our movement ‘Union Strong.’”
Cilento continued: “Together, we celebrate the reelection of Governor Kathy Hochul, Attorney General Tish James and State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. We look forward to working with (them all) to continue our fight to improve the quality of life for all Working People in New York. Tonight’s victory for Cait Conley, elected to represent New York’s (17th) Congressional District, demonstrates the extraordinary power of Union Members when they stand together and put their collective strength into action. Together, we celebrate her victory and look forward to working with her to advance the issues that matter most to Working People.”
