‘Young’ Tradespeople ‘Will Shape New York State’s Future’

The Micron Technology Facility located just outside Syracuse and the I-81 Viaduct Project are expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs over the next 20 years. These jobs will span various Trades, including Construction Laborers, Electricians, Plumbers and HVAC technicians. Micron Technology is building a Semiconductor Facility in Clay, which has become a key driver of the current surge in construction activity in Central New York. It is expected to contribute significantly to job creation in the region over the next two decades. These projects require substantial skilled labor resources. By 2031, 41% of the current U.S. Construction Workforce is expected to retire. This demographic shift will significantly reduce the available pool of experienced Workers in the industry. A survey found 82% of contractors are experiencing difficulty in hiring for hourly craft positions. This reflects widespread hiring challenges across the Construction Industry.
