LABOR NEWS UPDATE: IBEW-Represented Members Ratify New Five-Year Contract With Duquesne Light In Pittsburgh Area To End 11-Day Walkout That Impacted 1,000 Workers
Workers represented by International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 29 who work at the Duquesne Light Company (DLC) have voted to ratify a new five-year contract with the Pittsburgh area Utility, ending an 11-day Strike over salary, pension, staffing and other issues. Nearly 1,000 Local 29 Members returned to work Monday (October 12th) for the first time since striking on October 1st after their previous contract with DLC expired. They reached a tentative deal with the North Side-based Utility late last week after several days of negotiations. The IBEW said a total of 717 Workers voted, but seven of their ballots were voided or not turned in. Of the remaining 710 ballots in the ratification vote, 526 - or about 74% - were cast in favor of accepting the contract, while 184 - or nearly 26% - rejected it, according to the IBEW. No details of the new contract were publicly released.
