SEIU ‘Fights Back Against Wage Theft’ At The Miami International Airport As Fellow Airport Workers ‘Rally To Demand Living Wages’

(MIAMI, FLORIDA) - Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 32BJ Members who work for Alliance Ground International (AGI) at the Miami International Airport (MIA) have filed wage theft complaints against the Ground Handling Company. The Cargo Workers announced their complaints while joining fellow Airport Workers to demand living wages. MIA is one of Florida's largest economic engines, generating $212 billion in Statewide business revenue. It's also the busiest Cargo Airport in the U.S. Three current and former Employees at AGI Cargo say they are owed about $13,200 in unpaid wages. The Airport Contractor was recently named in the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health’s “Dirty Dozen 2026” report due to numerous workplace safety violations across the country. SEIU argues the company requires some Staff to remain available between flights without pay and calculates overtime using a lower rate than their regular pay. SEIU says AGI employs 900 Workers at MIA, who handle everything from pharmaceuticals to seafood flying into the Airport. “I don’t have a life. All I do is work. But even so, I struggle to pay my bills,” said Carlos Builes, a Ramp Agent. “I’m behind on my property taxes. Sometimes I skip meals because I can’t afford groceries. I have to donate plasma for money just to survive.”
