Chris Brock at The Watertown Daily Times reports that in July, concrete began to be poured for the largest Semi-Conductor Factory in the country, with the number of Workers now there a drop in the bucket as to what is planned for the site, located in the Suburb of Clay that’s about 10 minutes north of Syracuse and about an hour south of Watertown. Micron Technology's massive $100 billion complex will consist of four planned Fabrication Plants designed to produce memory chips. Groundbreaking was in January. It is projected to create about 9,000 direct jobs and tens of thousands of indirect regional jobs over its lifespan as it meets the growing demands of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Systems and devices powering the modern economy. Matthew Nesbitt, who serves as Business Manager of Iron Workers Local 60 - a member of the Regional Building and Construction Trades Councils in Central and Northern New York, said: "It's a monumental project. The political rhetoric around it talks about the project being the largest in the history of New York State. That's for real. For the Buildings and Trades Council and for the size of this project, we haven't built anything of this magnitude before." The project will be big, in scope - from its 1,400-acre planned footprint to the related ancillary jobs on the horizon - but also the changes it will bring to those who build it, including Labor Union Workers.
