(NEW YORK CITY) – On Tuesday (September 8th), the New York City AFL-CIO Central Labor Council held its 2026 Labor Day Parade under the banner: Our City, Our Fight, Our Future. The parade, which included representatives of Public, Private and Building Trades Unions, began their march on Liberty Street in Lower Manhattan. The Labor Council said: As we mark 25 years since September 11th, we will honor the Workers who ran toward danger, helped our City recover and rebuild, and paid an enormous price in the years that followed. New York City's strength comes from the people who build, maintain, teach, heal, transport, protect and keep our City running - every day. This mobilization is an opportunity for the entire New York City Labor Movement to come together and demonstrate the strength, solidarity and power of Working People, while standing up for the rights, freedoms and future of all New Yorkers.”

Meanwhile, New York City Labor Council President Brendan Griffith released a series of taped messages and discussions, including one with New York City Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Sue about the challenges facing Working People today and the future Organized Labor and the City want to build together.

And in The New York Daily News, Griffith and American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) District 2 National Vice President David Gonzalez reflected on the solidarity Working People showed in the days after September 11th and why we need to carry that solidarity forward today by valuing and protecting the Workers the City and that the country depends on.
