Asher Klein and Thea DiGiammerino at NBC Boston reports the Unionized Musicians of the Boston Symphony Orchestra have ratified a new contract and avoided a Strike, which would have been the first in the 125-year history of the Orchestra. The Boston Musicians’ Association contract was originally set to run out Monday. Union Members had authorized a Strike, but instead, the Union announced its Members had voted in favor of ratifying a new three-year contract. “This groundbreaking agreement offers unprecedented artistic collaboration through all aspects of the artistic process, which we believe will set a new standard for American Orchestras. The agreement guarantees the Musicians a meaningful role engaging collaborators and planning repertoire that ensures artistic excellence,” Union President David Rufino said.
