Jim Nelson at KING 5 News reports Union Workers employed at one of Seattle's busiest Hotels are doubling down on their fight for better pay, year-round health care and protections from Federal Immigration Agents as their Strike now reaches two months. More than 100 Members of UNITE HERE Local 8 went on Strike just before Seattle hosted six World Cup matches at nearby Lumen Field. The group just held an event outside the Embassy Suites Hotel to mark two months of picketing. A Union Employee said the company hasn't participated in negotiations with the Union in about seven weeks. The open-ended work stoppage began just before the first of six FIFA World Cup matches earlier this Summer. "It's very important to be clear about what the reasons for the Strike are from the Union's point of view, so it makes it much easier for the members of the public to grab on to what's at stake," said Elizabeth Ford, an Associate Professor of Law at Seattle University. Ford said as of this year in Washington, the Unemployment Law was amended to allow striking Workers to receive Unemployment Benefits. While it won't make up for everything, she said, it may help Workers endure a very long Strike.
