(CHICAGO, ILLINOIS) - American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Members elected Patrick Moran as AFSCME International President at the Union’s just-held 47th International Convention in Chicago. 

Nicole Pollard was elected International Secretary-Treasurer.

AFSCME represents more than 1.3 million Members across the United States.

Moran previously served as an AFSCME International Vice President and President of Maryland Council 3.

He expanded collective bargaining for Maryland’s Public Service Workers (Council 3), strengthened safety standards and built power by expanding Membership.

“I am honored to accept this responsibility. Nicole and I are ready to meet this moment,” Moran said. “For ninety years, AFSCME Members have been shaping and making history. Every generation of our Union has faced its defining moment. Now it’s our turn. We will fight and build power like our future depends on it because it does. We will protect our neighbors and strengthen our communities. This is our fight, and together, we’ve got the power to make change.”  

From the Cultural Sector to Higher Education to Health Care, AFSCME Members have led a wave of new organizing - securing a voice on the job for Workers despite non-stop attacks on funding for Public Services and the freedom of Workers to collectively bargain.

Moran and Pollard ran as a ticket, pledging to build on that momentum by investing in bold, direct Member engagement and mobilization.

Their platform focused on growing Worker Power, protecting and expanding Public Services and improving the lives of Working People by taking on the fights ahead.  

Nicole Pollard, an AFSCME Member for 23 years, served as AFSCME International Executive Assistant to former President Lee Saunders.
