The Pacific Daily News reports the Guam Department of Labor (DOL) has secured a more than $600,000 grant to support Registered Apprenticeship Programs on Guam. The new funding will help cover costs for related training instructions in both Pre-Apprenticeship and Registered Apprenticeship. The Guam DOL will partner with other employment and training programs to enroll at least 150 Pre-Apprenticeship participants. Pre-Apprenticeship is a model for the recruitment pipeline for Registered Apprenticeship and this program will also expand Apprenticeship opportunities for high school students, DOL Officials said. Guam has tapped into Federally-funded Apprenticeship Programs in the past to address affordability issues faced by Workers, families and businesses by initiating programs that make use of competitive Federal dollars to provide training, support services and financial incentives to participating employers. This latest $609,335 grant award is acknowledgement Guam is among States and Territories nationwide that are leading the way in implementation and expansion of Apprenticeships to grow their economies and create more good-paying jobs. These latest grants are part of a nationwide effort to build a modern American Workforce that focuses on in-demand, high-growth industries including: Artificial Intelligence infrastructure; Shipbuilding; Advanced Manufacturing; Information technology; and Other industry Sectors.
