The Teamsters Reach A Tentative & Historic First Union Contract With Corewell Health East That Covers 10,000 Registered Nurses In Michigan

The State of Michigan’s largest Health Care System has reached a tentative and historic first Union contract with the Teamsters that covers 10,000 Registered Nurses (RNs). The agreement comes after about a year of bargaining between Corewell Health East and Teamsters Local 2024. And the three-year deal comes after 10,000 Nurses voted three-to-one to join the Teamsters in November 2024 - and after 13 months of collective bargaining. The Nurses had also voted to authorize a Strike earlier this year if a fair contract was not reached. Highlights of the contract include: A 15% wage increase over the agreement; Caps on the average out-of-pocket health care premiums; A staffing committee that allows Nurses from each campus to raise staffing issues to management directly and effect change; and Protections on benefits like Personal Time Off, bereavement, jury duty and others so changes cannot unilaterally be made to their policies without bargaining.
