(NEW YORK CITY) - Workers employed at the Movement Harlem Climbing Gym held a one-day Strike on July 18th to protest Unfair Labor Practices (ULPs) in what the Workers United Union claimed was the first-ever wall-to-wall Strike at a North American Climbing Gym.

Standing in pouring rain, the Workers picketed outside the gym at 256 West 125th Street in Manhattan on a day when Movement offered free access to its facilities nationwide.

Managers kept the store open even though no Rank-and-File Workers staffed the gym.

Workers at the Harlem Facility voted to Unionize in summer 2025 and have been negotiating for around a year for their first contract.

They’re seeking better pay, more consistent scheduling and better training and safety standards.

Aliya Hunter, a Union Organizer and Front Desk Worker at Movement Harlem said: “Doing something bigger and bigger and bigger is going to show (Movement) that we’re not slowing down. We have the energy to keep on doing this and they really, really need to start taking it seriously.”

Molly Rosenshein, who’s worked at the Movement Harlem location for about two years, told The Chief she works multiple jobs as she isn’t consistently scheduled at Movement and doesn’t earn a livable wage.
