Harper's Magazine Staff Hold One Day Strike Action

(NEW YORK CITY) - The Editorial Staff of Harper’s Magazine, Union Members of United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 2110, held a one-day Strike to protest the Magazine’s contract offer. Workers Unionized in 2024 and have been trying to negotiate a contract for almost two years. Workers cite low wages as a primary cause of the dispute. The Entry Level Editorial position for an Assistant Editor pays just $45,000 per year, well below the $71,000 that New York City Hall’s recent report on the True Cost of Living estimates as the amount necessary for a single adult to afford to live in the City.  Earlier this month, Staff sent a letter to Management urging them to revise their offer (View the letter here). Management has argued that increases in minimum salaries must be paid for by Workers giving up their employer-paid health insurance.
