As Negotiations On A New Contract Continue, 32BJ SEIU-Represented Broadway Cleaners Vote To Authorize A Strike - ‘If Needed’
Nicole Rosky at BroadwayWorld reports more than 250 Union-represented Cleaners have voted to authorize a Strike that would impact 30 Broadway Theaters showing Tony award-winning productions like Schmigadoon, Cats: The Jellicle Ball, Wicked and The Lion King. This marks the first time Broadway Cleaners have authorized a Strike in nearly two decades. Negotiations started in early June between 32BJ Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the Union representing the Workers, and the Broadway League, which represents employers ATG, Nederlander, Shubert and Circle in the Square. As the parties are not close to resolving the outstanding issues and the agreement has already expired, Broadway Cleaners voted to Strike if needed "to keep up with the cost of living and secure the contract that they need."
