Introducing Young People To A Lifelong Career In The Building Trades: 25 Las Vegas-Area Teens Graduate From The ‘Heavy Metal Summer Experience Skilled Trades Program’
Warren Tennyson at KSNV-TV in Las Vegas reports 25 Southern Nevada teenagers are a step closer to careers in the Skilled Trades after completing this year’s Heavy Metal Summer Experience, a week-long, hands-on Training Program for youth age 15 to 19. The program, now in its third year, selected 25 students from a total of 119 applicants. Over five days, participants took part in welding and fabrication training, equipment demonstrations and job-site instruction while being introduced to some of the region’s fastest-growing career opportunities. The students worked alongside Skilled Professionals, toured Apprenticeship Facilities and learned what it takes to build careers in Construction and the Mechanical Trades. The program drew more than 100 applications for 25 spots, reflecting growing interest in high-demand careers that can’t easily be replaced by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Organizers add that the participants leave the program with a clearer understanding of Apprenticeship opportunities and the many rewarding careers available in the Skilled Trades.
