Staffers At The Catapult Book Group In Brooklyn ‘Go Union’ With The UAW

(BROOKLYN, NEW YORK) - An overwhelming majority of Workers employed at the Catapult Book Group have voted to join United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 2110 via a Union Election with the National Labor Relations Board. The Catapult Workers Collective, which encompasses around 20 Staffers spanning Editorial, Design, Marketing, Publicity, Production, Operations and rights at the Brooklyn-based publisher expressed excitement to begin the collective bargaining process. In an announcement, Staffers cited "job security, wages and a need for greater transparency from company leadership as reasons for Unionizing." UAW Local 2110 also represents Workers employed at HarperCollins Publishers and the New Press. “Publishing Workers deserve a contract,” Senior Production Editor Laura Berry said. “It’s not sustainable to depend on good intentions when it comes to our livelihood and a Union can protect the conditions of our employment during a time of political hostility against books.” The Catapult Book Group, founded in 2015, encompasses the imprints Catapult, Counterpoint, Soft Skull and, since last Fall, Hawthorne Books.
