“We Are Going To Fight For What We Deserve” - Unionized Hotel Workers In Philadelphia Go On Strike Amid World Cup, America 250 Celebrations
UNITE HERE Local 274 Members are on Strike at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown - the largest Union Hotel in the City. Hospitality Workers are demanding wages and benefits in line with the new city-wide standard, which five other Union Hotels have already secured, including: A $30-per-hour wage For Non-Tipped Employees by 2028; A decrease from a 16-room to a 15-room quota per day for Housekeeping Staff; and An 18% banquet gratuity. Union Members walked off the job on Sunday (June 21st), the day before France and Iraq faced off in a World Cup match at Lincoln Financial Field. “We told them we were ready to Strike the World Cup. They could have easily avoided this by signing the contract,” Sheraton Room Attendant Francine Heason said. “We are not worth less than the other Hotel Workers in this City and we are going to fight for what we deserve.”
