Marlborough, Massachusetts Students ‘Get A Closer Look’ At A State-Funded Highway Construction Training Program
(MARLBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS) - Jessie Castellano at Patch reports Assabet Valley students are getting a closer look at highway construction through a State-funded training program. A total of 18 Assabet juniors from six Trade Programs participated in the Massachusetts Pre-Apprenticeship and Vocational School Training Program at the Marlborough School. The program is funded by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and aims to expose students to careers in highway construction through hands-on training and industry instruction. Students are learning about Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), concrete work, stripping forms, old-fashioned demolition and CPR/AED and first aid as part of the program. They were also to visit the New England Laborers Training Academy where construction-related instruction for Laborers is offered. MassDOT's 2026-2030 Capital Investment Plan states its Pre-Apprenticeship Program is a collaborative effort designed to expand access to training and employment opportunities in the Construction Trades and the Transportation Sector.
