The State Of Kansas Is Selected For One Of 10 National Apprenticeship America Initiatives

KSNT in Topeka, Kansas reports the State of Kansas is gaining national recognition for its growing Apprenticeship Programs after being selected as one of 10 States participating in a new workforce initiative aimed at expanding career training opportunities across the country. The Apprenticeship America Program aims to help States grow Registered Apprenticeship Programs as part of the Federal Government’s goal of reaching one million active Apprentices nationwide. The initiative is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor and will provide each participating State with $200,000 to help develop and strengthen career training systems focused on hands-on learning and workforce development. At the Topeka Electrical Joint Apprenticeship interest in Apprenticeships has steadily grown in recent years. Currently there are about 90 Apprentices in the initiative, with 50 to 60 people coming through the Training Center each week. Representatives say younger generations are becoming more aware of trade careers and realizing that a four-year college degree is not the only path to success.
