National AFL-CIO President Liz Schuler On The February Jobs Report: “It’s Clear That This Administration Couldn’t Care Less About Addressing Affordability For Everyday People”
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – National AFL-CIO President Liz Schuler has released the following statement regarding the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) February Jobs Report:
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has released the February jobs report.
It provided more proof of exactly what Working People have been saying for more than a year: Trump’s economy isn’t working.
Nearly 100,000 jobs were cut last month and the unemployment rate rose to 4.4%.
The Trump Administration has been governing with a billionaires-first agenda and now we’re seeing the consequences.
Jobs are down in nearly every sector and more cuts are coming as funding that industries need dries up.
For months, the only growing area has been health care and those jobs are being ripped away, too - which disproportionately affects Women Workers, especially Women of Color.
At the same time, energy prices are spiking and the cost of living overall is crushing Working People.
And, if that weren’t bad enough, Trump’s “Big Ugly Bill” is slashing essential public programs like food assistance and Medicaid, further weakening the social safety nets that keep working families from losing everything.
Regardless of the message Trump ran his re-election campaign on, it’s clear that this Administration couldn’t care less about addressing affordability for everyday people.
