‘The Conduit To The Trades Wall’ - New Union Skilled Trades Posting At A Michigan High School ‘Helps Students Explore Career Options In The Building Trades’
Andy Jeffrey at The Port Huron Times Herald reports on a unique and new installation at Algonac Junior/Senior High School in Clay Township that is giving Michigan students a closer look at Skilled Trades career and connecting them directly with Apprenticeship Programs across the State. The school recently installed a Conduit to the Trades Wall, an interactive display highlighting Building Trades such as welding, plumbing and electrical work. The wall was installed in early March with the District hosting a community open house on March 12th to showcase the new resource. School officials say the goal is to expose students to career paths that don’t necessarily require a four-year college degree. “We saw an opportunity to expand opportunities for our students and expose them to broader ideas they might not actually see,” said Joe Ogilvy, Assistant Principal at Algonac Junior/Senior High School. The display features information about local Union Apprenticeship Programs and includes QR codes students can scan to learn more about each Trade.
