ProPublica Staff Stages ‘Practice Picket In Fight For A Fair’ Contract
An overwhelming majority of NewsGuild of New York/The Newspaper Guild-Communications Workers of America (TNG-CWA) Local 31003-represented Members who work for The Non-Profit Investigative Newsroom ProPublica have signed Strike Pledge Cards and are prepared for a walkout if they don’t get a fair contract. After more than two years of negotiations, management has still yet to accept basic Union protections, even language that would uphold the organization’s core principles of transparency and accountability. The ProPublica Guild is still waiting for serious counter-proposals guaranteeing just cause, fair wage increases, a transparent discipline process and guardrails preventing unchecked implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Earlier this month, more than 80% of the Bargaining Unit signed Strike Pledges - and last week Members walked out of the offices in a practice picket. “The ProPublica Guild is prepared to Strike,” the Union said. “We have shown up and compromised at the bargaining table for more than two years, but our newsroom’s management has slow-walked negotiations, offering weak contract language well below what our Members deserve.”
