Thousands of Unionized Air Safety Workers ‘Who Labored Through’ The Government Shutdown ‘Are Furious Because Their Promised $10,000 Bonus Has Vanished’

Rebecca Holland at moneywise reports thousands of dedicated Unionized Air Traffic Controllers, technicians and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Officers are crying foul after discovering they don’t qualify for the Federal Government’s promised $10,000 bonuses for workers who consistently reported for duty during the Government shutdown. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports only 311 of the nearly 13,000 Unionized Air Traffic Controllers and 423 of the nearly 6,000 Unionized Technicians are actually eligible for the bonus. In November, President Donald Trump said in a post on Truth Social that he would recommend Air Traffic Controllers who didn’t take time off during the shutdown be given a $10,000 bonus. However, the bonus payments required Workers to have perfect attendance, which included overtime shifts, and were disqualified for taking sick days or any other type of leave. The WSJ reports Controllers who missed as much as an hour of work are being denied their bonus. “They are disappointed, as there were thousands of (Air Traffic Controllers) that kept the system safe and running during the shutdown,” the National Air Traffic Controllers Association told the news outlet.
