Organized Labor ‘Now Turns Its Attention To The U.S. Senate’ On A Companion Bill After 20 House Republicans Joined Democrats ‘To Pass A Bill Nullifying Trump’s Anti-Union Executive Orders, Described As The Largest Act Of Union Busting In U.S. History
Government Executive reports the House voted 231-to-195 late last week to pass legislation that would nullify President Trump’s efforts to strip more than one million Federal Workers of their Collective Bargaining Rights, sending the measure over to the Senate, where its prospects are less rosy. Twenty Republican Lawmakers broke ranks to support the Protect America’s Workforce Act on the floor. Introduced by U.S. Representatives Jared Golden (Democrat-Maine) and Brian Fitzpatrick (Republican-Pennsylvania), the measure effectively nullified Trump’s March Executive Order barring Unions at more than 40 Federal Agencies under the guise of national security and bars Federal Agencies from terminating any Union contracts that were in place prior to the edict’s signature.
National AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler released the following statement:
A bipartisan majority in the House of Representatives voted to pass the Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2550), a Bill that would restore Collective Bargaining Rights to one million Federal Workers by reversing President Trump’s March Executive Order.
Following that order, the Trump Administration escalated its attacks, stripping away even more Collective Bargaining Rights by unilaterally canceling the Union contracts for 700,000 Federal Workers.
President Trump betrayed Workers when he tried to rip away our Collective Bargaining Rights.
In these increasingly polarized times, Working People delivered a rare bipartisan majority to stop the Administration’s unprecedented attacks on our freedoms.
The AFL-CIO commends the Democrats and Republicans who stood with Workers and voted to reverse the single largest act of Union-Busting in American History.
Americans trust Unions more than either political party.
As we turn our focus to the companion Bill in the Senate - where the Bill already has bipartisan support, Working People are calling on the politicians we elected to stand with us, even if it means standing up to the Union-Busting Boss in the White House.
