Columbus, Ohio Metropolitan Library Workers Seek To ‘Go Union’ With The Ohio Federation Of Teachers
Workers from one of the largest Library Systems in Ohio, the Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML), are seeking to Unionize with the Ohio Federation of Teachers, an affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). They haven’t filed the paperwork yet, as Organizers are trying to talk with all of the Library’s 630 eligible Workers first. The Unit would cover all of the Library’s Workers - except for management, Security Staff and certain Administrative Staff. The CML Organizing Committee said: “We’re forming our Union because we deserve a voice in the policies that affect us. We’re forming our Union to make sure every CML Worker, part-time and full-time, is paid fairly and receives vital benefits, like affordable health care and paid time off. We’re also forming our Union to stand up for our library, our profession and our patrons. Core values that our library depends on, like intellectual freedom, diversity, equity and inclusion, are facing dire threats. We need to use our collective voice to defend the freedom to read, the freedom to think and the freedom to be yourself.”
