MSP Airport Food Workers ‘Plan To Strike Before Busy Thanksgiving Travel Period’ - 250 Employees Of HMSHost, Which Runs Popular Airport Stops Like Starbucks & Shake Shack, ‘Want Wage Increases & Lower Health Insurance Costs’
Dana Thiede & Raya Quttaineh at KARE-TV in Minneapolis, Minnesota report Union Leaders representing more than 200 Food Workers at MSP International Airport said they will Strike during one of the busiest travel periods of the year unless the company they work for steps up. HMSHost operates multiple well-known brands at MSP, like Shake Shack and Starbucks, in Terminal 1 and The Wild Sports Bar and The Market Place in Terminal 2. UNITE HERE Local 17 Lead Internal Organizer Geof Paquette said Union Members are set to Strike on November 24th, 25th and 26th, adding the deadline for a new fair contract is midnight on Sunday, November 23rd. "We kept this airport running through the pandemic and the company used that time to cut back on us,” said Hamere Dinku, a Food Server for HMSHost. “We’ve been fighting for a year just to get back what we lost. Now it’s time for HMSHost to do right by its Workers.” HMSHost Employees, who have been working without a contract since December 2024, want significant wage increases and lower health insurance costs, saying HMSHost has failed to keep up with the cost of living while rising health care costs eat away at their paychecks.
