Doctors, Physicians’ Assistants & Nurse Practitioners Employed At Allina Health Care Strike Across Metro Area Clinics In ‘Historic First’ For Minnesota

Alyssa Chen at The Minnesota Reformer reports Doctors, Physicians’ Assistants and Nurse Practitioners employed at Allina Health Care Clinics across the Twin Cities Metro Area held a one-day strike on Wednesday (November 5th) to pressure the multi-state Health System into bargaining a fair contract and addressing safe staffing. Allina Doctors Council-Service Employees International Union (SEIU) - which represents more than 600 Members in what the Union says is the Nation’s largest Private Sector Health Care Provider Union, had announced the Unfair Labor Practice Strike (ULP) two weeks ago. The Strike was the first of its kind in the State of Minnesota, Union Officials said. It impacted clinics across the Twin Cities Metro Area, as well as one Clinic in River Falls, Wisconsin. Allina was presented with a proposal on safe staffing levels months ago, which the Health System has refused to bargain on, said Cora Walsh, a Family Doctor and Union Organizer. Other demands include a contract with higher wages and employment benefits written in ink. “We are asking for paid sick and vacation time so we can care for ourselves and our families so we can be there year after year caring for our patients,” Walsh said.
