Illinois Health Care Workers ‘Go Union,’ Join The RWDSU
Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) employed at the Citadel Bourbonnais Nursing Home in Bourbonnais, Illinois have joined Retail, Wholesale & Department Store Union-United Food & Commercial Workers (RWDSU/UFCW) Local 578 over their concerns about insufficient wages, staffing shortages and inconsistent schedules. The only way to make real change was by coming together and fighting for a Union contract, the Workers said. With Local 578 at their side, the CNAs at Citadel Bourbonnais will now negotiate for a fair contract, one that includes pay clarity, fair scheduling practices and the respect every Health Care Worker deserves. “The RWDSU is proud to welcome these new Members and support them as they begin the next stage of this journey: Bargaining a first contract that reflects their value and their work,” Union President Stuart Appelbaum said. “Their victory is part of a growing movement of Health Care and Nursing Home Workers across the country who are saying ‘enough is enough.’”
