‘Fight Together, Win Together:’ Striking Boeing Workers Rally In St. Louis - Both Sides Meet With Mediator, But Talks Fail, Boeing Reportedly Now Wants To ‘Expand Plans To Replace’ Striking Workers
The International Association of Machinists (IAM) and its allies in Organized Labor took part in a rally held earlier this week in St. Louis to support IAM District 837 Members who’ve been on Strike at Boeing Defense for nearly two months now. About 3,200 Boeing Machinists are demanding better pay and retirement benefits. This week, Union Representatives and Boeing Officials met with a Federal Mediator in an effort to find a path to end the Strike, but later both sides announced negotiations had failed. The IAM says Boeing is refusing to budge. Union Officials say “the way to end this Strike continues to be the sensible pre-ratified offer that was approved by our Membership.” National AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler (pictured above) was at the IAM rally, telling the Striking Workers: “We’re seeing this everywhere and it’s called ‘corporate greed.’ These are attacks on our dignity. If Boeing can afford to give ($100 million) in golden parachutes to failed CEOs, then they can afford to pay Workers a fair share of the wealth we create.” Meanwhile, Reuters is reporting Boeing is expanding plans to replace the striking Workers who assemble fighter jets and munitions with new hires through year's end. The first group of Replacement Workers for Munitions Production and Assembly Mechanics is expected to begin training today (Friday, October 3rd), according to a company memo.
