Union-Represented Nurses Employed At Kaiser Permanente Facilities Across The State Of California Protest Recent Layoffs & Kaiser’s Use Of Artificial Intelligence
Nurses represented by California Nurses Association/National Nurses United (CNA/NNU) recently conducted informational pickets to speak out against recent layoffs, wage theft, the implementation of untested technologies, and Kaiser’s Permanente’s prioritization of its finances over patient care. The CNA/NNU represents nearly 25,000 Nurses employed at 22 Kaiser Facilities across the State. The Union believes Kaiser rolling out of untested technologies in health care leads to wage theft for Nurses. ICU Nurse Eric Newsom said: "Nothing can replace the hands of a Nurse. We are trained to take care of you. We're trained to take care of your family members. If AI (Artificial Intelligence) is to come into our jobs, we want it to improve the time we have with you, not to take the time away." Added Michelle Gutierrez Vo, a Registered Nure employed in the Adult and Family Medicine Department at Kaiser Fremont Medical Center and a CNA President, said: “You simply cannot replace Nurses with technology like Artificial Intelligence. Instead of looking to these untested technologies being pushed by corporate executives, Kaiser management should be working with us to ensure that issues like safe staffing and wage theft aren’t impacting patients and Nurses.”
