'They're Part Of This Community:’ Oregon LiUNA Apprentices ‘Donate Their Labor To Dismantle’ Old Gresham Fire Training Tower

Katherine Cook at KGW-TV in Portland, Oregon reports Firefighters in Gresham, Oregon will soon have a new training tower, thanks to State and local funding. But before construction begins, the old tower must be torn down - a task with its own story about community support. Apprentices with the Oregon and South Idaho Chapters of the Laborer's International Union of North America (LiUNA) have begun donating their time at the site, dismantling the four-story tower while learning their trade. "To be able to come out here and have live training and see that our Fire Department gets their newest, latest and greatest on their Training Facility is huge!," LiUNA Training and Apprenticeship Director Brian Davidson said. "Every Member that's up here is really enjoying the fact that they're part of this community that's giving back." Construction of the new training tower is set to begin in October.
