Union Leaders and Members turned out in large numbers earlier this week for the March on Wall Street, joining the National Action Network, American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) President Lee Saunders, the Reverend Al Sharpton and other activists to demand economic and labor justice. Taking place on the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s I Have a Dream speech, the march underscored the continuing link between Civil Rights and Workers’ Rights. Labor Participants - including Representatives and Members of AFSCME District Council 37, the Hotel & Gaming Trades Council, the American Federation of Government Employees and other Unions, collectively called for protecting public services, safeguarding retirement and medical benefits, and defending the right to organize, while making it clear Democracy cannot survive without Labor.
