Benjamin Freeman at The WOLF/Wilkes-Barre-Scranton reports Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was at International Brotherhood of Electric Workers (IBEW) Local 163’s JATC Electrical Training Center in Nanticoke to promote his Administration’s focus on Apprenticeships. “It’s a win for everybody, for that individual, for our community college, for our Union Hall and for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We are trying to treat every avenue to success with hope and with investment.” the Governor said. Shapiro also touted a 50% increase in funding for Trade Professions, as well as the work done between Unions, Pennsylvania’s Community Colleges and Apprenticeship Training Centers. Since the start of the current Administration, the investments have created 165 new Pre-Apprenticeships and Registered Apprenticeships, as well as training more than 34,000 Apprentices across different sectors. IBEW Local 163 Business Manager John Olejnik said: “Anybody that’s lived here their whole life knows that there’s been a vacuum and people have been leaving and suddenly there’s a turnaround. There’s people moving here, industry coming (and) advancements being made. It’s a bright future for us.”
