Southern California Edison Workers ‘Celebrate Overwhelming & Historic’ Union Election Victory

(LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA) - The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has announced that in a 562-to-351 vote, more than 1,100 Planners, Designers and Field Technicians at Southern California Edison have won their election for a Union.

A total of 83% of the Unit voted in the election.

The Bargaining Unit is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California-International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (ESC/IFPTE) Local 20.

This victory comes following Workers filing for a Union Election in April of this year and organizing tirelessly to exercise their right to a protected voice on the job

The new Unit consists of workers who are essential in ensuring the delivery of utilities to millions across Central, Coastal, and Southern California.

Southern California Edison serves a total customer base of about five million residential and business accounts across 430 cities and communities.

The Engineers and Scientists of California Local 20, International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, AFL-CIO & CLC is a democratic labor union representing more than 9,500 workers throughout California. ESC Local 20 members are highly skilled professionals employed principally at Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), Kaiser Permanente, private and public healthcare facilities, local and federal government agencies, and legal non-profits.

This historic organizing drive is the second largest in L20's history (after our founding organizing drive in 1952). We welcome these workers in the electrical utility industry. Combined with L20's gas and electric, utility workers at PGE make IFPTE a California statewide utility Union!” said Francisco Preciado Jr., Executive Director of ESC Local 20.

ESC/IFPTE represents more than 9,500 Workers throughout California.
