NYSNA-Represented Nurses Picket Huntington Hospital Over Contract Talks

The New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) picketed Huntington Hospital as they seek a new contract that they say would improve conditions for patients and Nurses. Picketers carried signs that read: More Nurses, Less Millionaire Execs and Safe Staff Saves Lives. Supporters of the Huntington Hospital Nurses joined the picketing from hospitals around the area, including Plainview and Syosset. “These issues are solvable issues,” a Huntington Hospital Nurse said. “We’re out here because we have serious staffing issues, we have serious recruitment issues management refuses to address.” The Nurse added “management is more concerned about optics than safe patient care.” NYSNA Representative Liz Eisenberg said Nurses want a fair contract that includes competitive wages, safe patient care, and opportunities for professional advancement, but said Northwell Health - which owns Huntington Hospital, has been slow to negotiate specifics.
