‘Despite An Intense Anti-Union Campaign’ Carried Out By Management, Dairy Farmers Of America Drivers ‘Go Union,’ Join The Teamsters

(GOLDSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA) – Drivers employed at Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) in Goldsboro, North Carolina have voted to join Teamsters Local 391 as contract negotiations resume for 2,000 Teamsters at the Dairy Co-Operative nationwide.
DFA is the largest Dairy Co-Operative in North America.
The 11 Drivers overcame an intense Anti-Union Campaign from the company.
In the two weeks leading up to the election, DFA sent company representatives into the facility to spread misinformation and intimidate Workers.
“DFA pulled out all the stops to prevent just eleven Drivers from joining the Teamsters - that shows just how scared they are of the Teamsters,” Local 391 President Michael McGaha said. “We couldn’t be prouder to welcome our new Members into our Union.”
The victory comes as Teamsters escalate national contract negotiations covering 2,000 DFA Workers across the country.
They are demanding higher wages, protections from automation and a common expiration date for all DFA Teamsters contracts.
Last week, DFA Teamsters took coordinated actions nationwide to warn the public of a potential work stoppage if the company refuses to meet the Wnion’s demands for a fair deal.
“By joining the powerful Teamsters Union, we’ll finally have our wages, benefits and working conditions protected by a strong contract,” said Bryan Cavanagh, a 42-year Driver at DFA. “We didn’t fall for DFA’s tricks because we were united in this fight. Now we are ready to take our fight to the bargaining table to address years of workplace concerns.”
The Teamsters represent more than 1.3 million Members in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.
