‘Retaliatory, Vindictive Union Busting’ – Syracuse & NYS Leaders ‘Trash’ EBay’s ‘Decision To End TCGplayer’s Syracuse Operations, More Than 300 Feared To Be Laid Off’

Andrew Donovan at WWTI/NewsChannel 9 in Watertown reports Syracuse and New York State Leaders say eBay’s decision to shut down TCGplayer’s local operations appears to be retaliation for the Workers’ efforts to Unionize. Before his election to the State Senate, Chris Ryan served as President of Communication Workers of America Local 1123 and represented TGCplayer Workers across from eBay at the bargaining table. TCGplayer Workers voted to Unionize two years ago but never got a contract. The company confirmed first to NewsChannel 9 that it is consolidating TCGplayer’s operations within a Kentucky Facility. The shutdown of the Syracuse operations results in at least 220 layoffs, the company said, but Senator Ryan’s Office says the number of layoffs is feared to be more than 300. “They have been at the bargaining table with eBay for over a year now,” Syracuse City Auditor Alex Marion told NewsChannel 9. “This reeks of eBay not bargaining in good faith.”
