(ALBANY, NEW YORK) – The New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) issued the following statement after voters across the State turned out earlier this week to approve School Budgets and elect School Board Members:
According to NYSUT’s initial analysis of the results, 97% of School Budgets passed and 89% of NYSUT’s endorsed candidates were elected to School Boards, including 62 NYSUT Members.
NYSUT President Melinda Person said: “I'm proud to congratulate the hundreds of School Board candidates who won their races and to thank the communities who came out to support School Budgets across the State. These victories aren’t just about numbers - they’re about values. Public Schools are the heart of our communities and the foundation of our country’s future. NYSUT remains firmly committed to using our collective power to elect champions for Public Education, pass strong budgets - and ensure that every child, in every ZIP code, has access to the education they deserve.”
NYSUT was involved in 517 School Board races and won 91% of them.
Of the 274 Union-endorsed candidates, 245 won their elections.
