The American Federation Of Musicians Defends Its Union Members Taylor Swift & Bruce Springsteen After The Two Were Attacked By President Trump
Said The AFM: “Musicians Have The Right To Freedom Of Expression And We Stand In Solidarity With All Our Members”
American Federation of Musicians (AFM) International President Tino Gagliardi issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s attacks on AFM Members Bruce Springsteen (Local 47 in Los Angeles and Local 399 in Asbury Park, New Jersey), and Taylor Swift (Local 257 in Nashville, Tennessee):
“The American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada will not remain silent as two of our Members - Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift - are singled out and personally attacked by the President of the United States. Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift are not just brilliant Musicians, they are role models and inspirations to millions of people in the United States and across the world. Whether it’s ‘Born in the USA’ or the Eras Tour, their music is timeless, impactful and has deep cultural meaning. Musicians have the right to freedom of expression, and we stand in solidarity with all our members.”
According to Forbes, Trump - referencing a post he made on Truth Social in September slamming the singer after she endorsed his opponent, former Vice President Kamala Harris, said: “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’”
The reason for Trump’s attack on Swift is unclear.
Swift has not mentioned him recently and she has kept a low profile on Social Media and in public since her blockbuster Eras Tour wrapped up in December.
Minutes later, Trump made another post targeting the “Highly Overrated Bruce Springsteen” after the The Boss blasted Trump as “treasonous” and “unfit” for office while on stage in London last week.
“Never liked him, never liked his music, or his Radical Left Politics and, importantly, he’s not a talented guy,” Trump said of Springsteen, criticizing him for supporting his former opponent, former President Joe Biden.
Trump also threatened Springsteen - whom he called a “dried out ‘prune’ of a rocker” - to “KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country.”
