IBEW Local 1049-Represented National Grid Workers Approve New Contract With 4% Annual Wage Increase, ‘Ending Long, Tense’ Negotiations

Isabella Gallo at The Long Island Press reports that after months of uncertainty, Union-represented National Grid Workers officially have a new contract. International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1049, which represents 1,200 National Grid Employees who work in Long Island’s Natural Gas and Power Plants, have voted 590-to-90 to approve the new, four-year deal. The successful vote ends a months-long contract negotiation period where the Workers found themselves temporarily without a contract in February, having voted down a previous tentative agreement in March and on the verge of a Strike multiple times. “It’s a good agreement,” said Local 1049 Business Manager Pat Guidice, who added the new contract includes a 4% yearly wage increase across the length of the contract, a reduction in out-of-pocket health care costs and improvements in 401(k) and life insurance policies.
