The Trump Administration ‘Orders A Halt’ On Empire Wind 1 Construction, ‘Jeopardizing Thousands Of Union Jobs’

This week the Trump Administration ordered an immediate halt to construction on Empire Wind 1 - the fully funded, fully permitted 810-megawatt Offshore Wind Farm that was expected to power 500,000 New York homes by 2027. The project, which began construction last year, was already employing hundreds of New Yorkers including more than 1,000 Union jobs. Thousands more jobs supporting the Offshore Wind Industry, including on the port at South Brooklyn Marine Terminal, assembly and staging at Arthur Kill Terminal on Staten Island, and component manufacturing in Albany and across the country are also now at risk. “I will fight this every step of the way to protect Union jobs, affordable energy and New York’s economic future,” Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement, calling the project “exactly the type of bipartisan energy solution we should be working on.” The New York City AFL-CIO Central Labor Council accused Trump officials of "politicizing the buildout of clean energy infrastructure that is critically needed to stabilize and reduce energy costs for Working Families across New York.”
