“We're Standing Together Against Attacks On Workers’ Rights And Union-Busting Efforts That Threaten Our Hard-Won Protections” - The NYC Labor Movement ‘Turns Out In Force’ At The Hands Off!’ Demonstration That Targeted Trump & Musk

Crowds of protesters converged on Bryant Park in New York City on Saturday (April 5th) to call out President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk's actions on government downsizing, the economy, immigration and human rights. The demonstration was just one of more than 1,200 Hands Off! events conducted by more than 150 groups - including Civil Rights Organizations, Labor Unions, LBGTQ+ Advocates, Veterans and Elections Activists, across all 50 U.S. States. Federal Worker Eileen Chen with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau spoke about a Federal Judge who recently blocked the Trump Administration's attempt to dismantle the government agency: "They tried to shut down our entire agency. And I and many of my Co-Workers were fired. But because we've all come together through our really strong Union, we were actually able to get every single person reinstated." Protesters assailed the Trump Administration's moves to fire thousands of Federal Workers, close Social Security Administration Field Offices, effectively shutter entire agencies, deport Immigrants, scale back protections for Transgender People and cut Federal funding for health programs. The New York City AFL-CIO Central Labor Council issued the following statement before the New York City demonstration began: We're standing together against attacks on Workers’ Rights and Union-Busting efforts that threaten our hard-won protections, including an Executive Order banning Collective Bargaining for Federal Employees. Actions like these by the Trump Administration aren't about improving government, but about consolidating power at Workers’ expense. They're about silencing Workers who keep our country running while paving the way for a billionaire-backed takeover of our public institutions and weakening the services millions of Americans rely on. Now is the time for New York City's Labor Movement to stand up and fight back against this attack on Working People and communities.
