What President Trump’s Tariffs ‘Could Mean For’ U.S. Workers, Consumers & The American Economy

Tobias Burns at The Hill reports on what President Donald Trump’s tariffs could mean for U.S. Workers, consumers and the American Economy. First off, Burns says it is likely prices will rise if the tariffs remain in place. Tariffs increase the costs of bringing goods to the market and some portion of that cost is likely to be passed on to consumers. This would also lead to inflation. “We estimate that (the) announced measures could boost … prices by one to one-point-five-percent this year, and we believe the inflationary effects would mostly be realized in the middle quarters of the year,” Economist Michael Feroli wrote for J.P. Morgan.
