IBEW Local 1049 & National Grid ‘Reach Second Tentative Agreement That Averts’ Strike

Isabella Gallo at The Long Island Press reports that after months of ongoing contract negotiations, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1040 - which represents more than 1,200 National Grid Employees who work in natural gas and power plants, has reached its second tentative agreement in as many months, averting a potential Strike that was set to start this past weekend. The Union-represented Workers had voted down the first tentative agreement that was reached in February. The new agreement has been endorsed by Local 1049. “The Members rejected the first tentative agreement that came through because it didn't meet their expectations for wages and the cost of medical care was too high,” said Local 1049 Business Manager Pat Guidice, who called the new tentative agreement “an improvement.” The agreement provides for job security, fair wage increases and equitable retirement and medical benefits for our Workers, National Grid said in a statement.
