‘Capping Nearly A Year Of Tense Negotiations,’ The Chicago Teachers Union ‘Touts’ An ‘Historic Contract Achievement’ That Offers A ‘Well-Rounded’ Education ‘To Every Chicago Child & Security To The Union’s Nearly 30,000 Members’
Matt Masterson & Heather Cherone at WTTW report the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) has reached a tentative contract agreement with Chicago’s Public Schools (CPS), capping nearly a year of tense negotiations. The CTU is calling the four-year deal a “historic achievement” that represents the fulfillment of promises Mayor Brandon Johnson made to transform CPS into a School District that offers a well-rounded education to every Chicago child and security to its nearly 30,000 Members. It also represents the first time in 15 years that the Union’s leadership has reached an agreement with CPS without first taking a Strike vote.
