The State Of Michigan Invests $1.9 Million ‘To Boost Career Training Through’ Apprenticeship Programs

Ivy Fowler at News Channel 3 reports from Kalamazoo, Michigan that programs supporting career training are getting $1.9 million in grant funding. In partnership with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO), Governor Gretchen Whitmer has awarded $1.9 million in State Apprenticeship Expansion Grant funding into Workforce Development Programs, directly benefitting 287 additional Michiganders through access to Registered Apprenticeship Programs, LEO officials said. “These State Apprenticeship Expansion Grants will help (287) Michiganders get the skills they need so they can earn more money and help businesses continue to grow right here in Michigan,” Whitmer said. As of 2024 data, there are 20,581 active Apprentices under this program and 1,171 active programs throughout the State - 2,528 of those people and 341 programs within Western Michigan.
