Unionized Northwestern University Workers ‘Strike For Better Pay & Benefits’
Lenny Lamkin at People’s World reports bad pay and worse benefits are why 500 Northwestern University Dining Hall Workers are on Strike in Evanston, Illinois. The Workers, who are Members of Unite Here Local 1, voted to authorize the Strike in late February. The Employees are seeking a fair contract that includes a set schedule, as well as an increased employer pension contribution. The average wage for Workers with five years of experience is $20 an hour, Union Officials said. Unite Here Local 1 wants the contract to also include the same protections for Workers employed at the Northwestern Downtown Chicago Campus.
