New Data From The Bureau Of Labor Statistics Shows 69 Workers In New York City Lost Their Lives In 2023, Down From The 83 Who Died In Work-Related Fatalities In 2022
Erik Bascome at The Staten Island Advance reports new data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows there were 5,283 fatal work injuries across the U.S. in 2023, down roughly 3.7% from 5,486 in 2022. In New York City, 69 Workers lost their lives in 2023, down roughly 16.9% from the 83 recorded work-related fatalities in 2022. The data shows that Worker fatalities in New York City peaked in 1993 with 191, with the lowest total, 56, recorded in 2013 and 2016. Exposure to harmful substances or environments and falls, trips and slips were tied as the most common cause of work-related fatalities in New York City with 19 each.
