The IBEW Educates Pennsylvania Students ‘Of The Many Opportunities Provided Through Apprenticeship Training, Including A Yearly Income Of At Least $72,000’

The Standard-Journal reports from New Berlin, Pennsylvania that representatives of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Locals 812 and 607 recently visited the SUN Area Technical Institute to speak to students. They told the Electrical Systems Technology and Electromechanical classes about opportunities available through the Union’s Apprenticeship Programs. Training usually takes four years before earning a Journeyman’s Electrical License. Apprentices work on the job and usually attend class two times a week. The IBEW Representatives addressed the belief a college education was needed to earn a good living. Because so many people went to college, they said, it caused a lack of development of skilled Workers in the Building Trades. Now with many Baby Boomers retiring, they told students there is a great need for new young Workers to enter the electrical field. New construction throughout the country will provide many job opportunities for all types of Tradesmen. The IBEW, for example, offers great health and exceptional retirement benefits and the Union is always taking applications and is looking for people that have a good mechanical aptitude and who are willing to learn - and they said most Electricians in their Local Unions earn at least $72,000 a year.
