Agreement Reached Between New York State & New York State Correctional Officers - Corrections Officers Could Return To Their Prisons Today

An agreement has been reached that could end the weeks of Prison Strikes across New York State and Corrections Officers could be back to work as early as today (Monday, March 10th). The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) confirmed the agreement over the weekend. Officials say it will take effect if at least 85% of Officers return to work today. The deal comes after weeks of Corrections Officers being on Strike at 30 or more New York State Prisons. The Officers were calling for safer working conditions under the HALT Act, a measure that aimed to limit the use of solitary confinement in State Prisons. Under the agreement - which was signed by DOCCS, the New York State Office of Employee Relations and the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA), those Officers who went out on Strike won't be penalized as long as they go back to work today. Employees who return to work today will also have their health insurance reinstated.
